Sea Turtle Conservation in Costa Rica.
La Tortuga Feliz is a non profit organisation, driven by volunteers for volunteers, to protect marine turtles in Costa Rica.
Tasks: In the months March through August, you can help with the realization of the project objectives, mainly by patrolling the beaches at night in shifts with the local inhabitants, looking for nesting sea turtles. The turtle hatchery is manned by volunteers over a 24 hr period. There are daily operational duties too. This means that volunteers will be working irregular hours and no two days are the same.
Requirements: You need to be physically fit as you can be required to walk up to 6 miles while patrolling the beaches looking for nesting turtles. An interest in conservation and being sociable is a big help too. It is also important to realize that La Tortuga Feliz is an alcohol and drug free program.
