How we work

Teaching stations

Our teaching philosophy is not only reflected through our methodology but our classrooms as well.  At our schools you will not be learning Spanish in a traditional setting, but rather in our open-air stations surrounded by nature. Whether it’s the volcano in Turrialba, the jungle in Puerto Viejo, the Caribbean Sea in Bocas or the exotic animal life in Boquete, your classroom will actually be an attractive feature.

Level testing

To assess your level, a written test is required which you make take prior to your arrival. If you are unable to take the test online, you may take it on campus at 5 pm on Sunday before your classes begin. In either case, you will take an oral test on Sunday as well. Based upon these tests,  we place you in a group lessons or private lessons appropriate to your level.  At the end of your course work with us, you will receive a certificate of participation and attendance. In order to have a your attained level stated on your certificate, you will need to pass a test.  This end of course testing costs $15 extra since you will have a private teacher with you for the oral section of the test. The total test takes about 2 hours.

Tandem project

This project allows a perfect cultural and linguistic exchange between you and the locals in which you get to practice Spanish and they get a chance to practice English.  This unique opportunity allows you to engage and integrate into the local culture in a fun and informal way. ou can let us know in advance if you would like to participate in the program so that we will find a suitable match for your shared interests.  You will meet at least once a week and your tandem partner is invited to attend all our school’s social activities.

Free activities

Every week, free of charge, social and educational activities are offered from Sunday to Friday. On Sundays at 6 pm is our new student welcome walk in which we cover all the necessary information regarding the hostel, transportation, class schedule and free time activities.  Each day we will post the free activities including zumba, yoga, movie night, Latin American dance classes, cocktail hour, chocolate workshop, just to mention a few.  On Friday nights we have our traditional potluck barbecue that includes a school sponsored sangria or jungle punch!
